Frequently Asked Questions

Adopting
Why adopt a senior dog from us?
You will be giving a senior dog a chance at a loving home in their final chapter. Unlike high-intake shelters where dogs are evaluated quickly and often times inaccurately, our staff have spent extended time with each of our dogs. This allows us to observe temperament, energy level, social behavior and other personality traits that can help us ensure a better match between dog and foster/adopter.
What age is considered a senior dog for FureverNV?
Our minimum intake age is seven years old.
Are your dogs spayed/neutered and vaccinated?
Yes, with some caveats. If a dog is intact but is considered too risky by the medical team to put under anesthesia, we will not fix them as it would be considered too dangerous. All of our dogs are vaccinated.
How do I apply to adopt?
Please fill out our online adoption application. Once it is accepted, a member of our team will be in touch to answer any questions and discuss next steps.
Can I meet a dog before adopting?
Yes, we always recommend a meet-and-greet before making a decision.
What if the adoption doesn't work out?
We will always take back a dog who has been with us before, if for whatever reason it does not work out.
What should I know about rescuing a senior dog?
Please look up the 3-3-3 rule for rescue dogs. In short, it is a general guideline for how newly adopted rescue dogs typically adjust: 3 days to decompress from the initial shock, 3 weeks to learn your household routine, and 3 months to build true trust and feel secure.
Fostering
How do I become a foster?
Fill out our online foster application. Someone will be in touch to discuss once it has been submitted.
What expenses does the rescue cover?
We cover medical, food, and grooming expenses for the dog.
How long will I foster a dog for?
As long as you like.
What if my foster dog becomes ill?
An appointment with our veterinarian can be scheduled. If location is an issue, we allow fosters to use their preferred veterinarian. We ask that any expense over $200 be approved by FureverNV staff before proceeding, in order for reimbursement to be processed.
How do I request a rescue pull from a city shelter as a foster?
Submit the online foster application. In the appropriate section, note the animal's name, the shelter, and their AID (Animal ID). Someone will be in touch to discuss further once the application has been submitted.
Volunteering
How can I volunteer?
Please fill out our online volunteer application. Someone will be in touch to discuss once it has been submitted.
What volunteer opportunities are available?
We are located 1–2 hours west of Vegas. Volunteers are welcome to visit our facilities, help transport dogs to/from the shelter, or assist at adoption events.
Do I need previous dog experience?
It is not a requirement but is recommended.
Is there an age requirement for volunteers?
Yes, all volunteers must be 18 or over.
Health & Medical
What medical care do your dogs receive before adoption?
All of our dogs receive a full, comprehensive exam with a veterinarian within the first week of intake. Treatment for each dog will depend on their individual medical needs.
Are medical conditions disclosed before adoption?
Yes.
Will I receive veterinary records upon adoption?
Yes, all medical records are automatically emailed to you by our dog software once adoption checkout has been completed.
Donations & Support
How can I donate?

What items do you accept as in-kind donations?
High priority items are food (wet and dry), cleaning supplies, dog beds and blankets, treats, shampoo, collars, and leashes.
Can I sponsor a senior dog's medical care?
Yes. Please use our Contact Us page and select "I'd like to sponsor a dog." We will be in touch to discuss next steps.
Can I make a donation in memory of a pet or loved one?
Yes, please visit our Donate page and list the name in the "Additional Information" section.
Rescue-Specific Questions
How can I request a rescue pull from a city shelter?
We only pull dogs on the "commitment" list at a city shelter. We regularly check these lists, so there is no need to request a pull — we will see them.
How do I apply to surrender my dog?
Please fill out our online owner surrender form. You will be placed in our queue for open spots and someone will be in touch when a spot opens. Requirements: the dog must be up-to-date on vaccines and must pass a temperament test administered by a FureverNV staff member.
How do I submit an application for a stray dog I found?
Please fill out our online stray form. Someone will be in touch to discuss once it has been submitted.
